Will Jake Paul fight Canelo Alvarez next? Here's what the boxers have said about potential matchup

Jake Paul has not yet stepped into the ring against Mike Tyson, but he already has his eyes on his next opponent.

For those that have followed along with the 27-year-old's combat career, it's clear there is one name he wants on his resume -- Canelo Alvarez.

Paul enters Friday's bout against Tyson in Arlington, Texas, with a record of 10-1, putting his skills to the test against a man with 50 wins, including 44 knockouts, to his name in the professional boxing sphere. It will be no easy task for Paul.

If Paul wins on Friday, will he face Alvarez? Here's what to know about his potential next opponent.

It's unclear if Paul will actually fight Alvarez, but if the YouTuber-turned-boxer gets his way, that's the bout to make after Tyson.

Paul has mentioned the four-weight champion on a number of occasions, and before Friday's bout against the 58-year-old boxing legend, he made it known once again that he's coming for Alvarez.

"This moment will prove I'm the face of boxing, the largest attraction, and me vs. Canelo at 200 pounds for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight, arguably even bigger than me vs. Tyson, and it makes so much sense, Paul said before the Tyson fight.

Of course, the outcome of the match at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium very much could affect Paul's chances of landing a date with the exceptional Mexican.

"Canelo is on his way out," Paul said. "He's going to want a payday and I want to show the world all the (stuff) I've been talking about beating Canelo is actually true and I'll have the biggest upset in the history of boxing. We'll fight to really see who is the face because after this event, I'm going to be claiming it."

Alvarez has been asked about Paul's request in the past. When talking about the specific battle against the legendary heavyweight, the 34-year-old felt the fight was more about the entire Netflix spectacle being more of a "show" than a boxing bout.

"I think Netflix is good for boxing, but that special fight, I think Netflix is doing something wrong there," Alvarez said in a March interview with TMZ. "Netflix being involved (in boxing), yes, it's good, but not in that kind of fight. I think it's more show than a fight."

Still, if it's Paul's hand that is raised tonight, expect to hear the name of one of the most dangerous boxers in the world come out of his mouth. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen.
