Microsoft has introduced Windows 365 Link, a compact cloud-based PC tailored for business use. The device is priced at $349 and measures 120 x 120 x 30 millimeters, making it smaller than similar products like Apple's Mac mini. Its compact design is achieved through a fanless cooling system and the lack of local storage. Despite its size, the device offers a variety of connectivity options, including one USB-C port, three USB-A ports, HDMI, DisplayPort, and Ethernet connections. It supports dual 4K monitors and includes Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E for wireless connectivity. Microsoft has not yet released the specific hardware specifications for this device. Windows 365 Link requires a subscription to Windows 365, along with Microsoft Intune and Entra ID, and is compatible with 365 Frontline, Enterprise, and Business editions. Similar to other cloud-based solutions, certain security features are enforced by Microsoft, such as Secure Boot, a dedicated Trusted Platform Module, Hypervisor Code Integrity, BitLocker encryption, and the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint detection and response sensor.
These security features cannot be disabled, enhancing the device's security. Microsoft plans to launch the device in April 2025, with early previews available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Businesses interested in participating in the preview program can contact their Microsoft account representative before December 15, 2024.
As virtualization solutions become more common across various devices, users may face challenges like complex sign-in processes, peripheral incompatibility, and latency issues. Windows 365 Link aims to address these challenges, particularly in environments with shared workspaces. The device is designed to be compact and lightweight, supporting productivity through responsive performance. It features rapid boot times and quick wake-from-sleep functionality, allowing users to access their Cloud PC efficiently. Additionally, with support for dual 4K monitors, four USB ports, an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3, Windows 365 Link provides complete connectivity options for both wired and wireless peripherals.
