JAMES CITY COUNTY -- Ruth Larson, Chair and Berkeley Representative on the James City County Board of Supervisors, was elected to the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) 2024-25 Executive Committee during its 90th Annual Business Meeting on Nov. 12.
According to the county, VACo exists to support county officials and to effectively represent, promote and protect the interests of counties to serve the people of Virginia better.
Larson will serve as the president. Larson has represented Region 2 on the VACo Executive Committee since 2021 and on the VACo Board of Directors since 2019.
"I am excited and humbled to be selected as the next VACo president, and I'm honored to represent James City County and the Virginia Peninsula region," Larson said. "I've learned a lot from VACo over the years and want to ensure we continue our strength of educating and informing Virginia's local leaders. I'm also looking forward to working with state and federal leaders to protect important governing tools like local authority. I can't wait to get to work."

Larson was first elected to the James City County Board of Supervisors in November 2015 and reelected in 2019 and 2023. She has served as the chairman in 2024, and served as the vice-chair in 2023 and the chair in 2018. Larson also served as the 2022 chair for the James City Service Authority (JCSA) and was the JCSA vice chair in 2020 and 2021. Larson previously served on the Williamsburg-James City County School Board beginning in 2006 until her election to the Board of Supervisors in 2015.
