Meet New York's adorable players in February's Puppy Bowl XXI

Nearly two dozen dogs from the Empire State will be featured this year in Puppy Bowl XXI.

According to a news release, Puppy Bowl is set to air at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 9 on the Animal Planet channel. This year's canine showdown will feature 142 puppies from 80 shelters in 40 states and two countries. The event will also stream on Discovery+. An hourlong pre-game show is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

This year's show - which spans three hours - will feature 11 special needs' pups on Team Fluff and Team Ruff - including two from Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue on Staten Island. That includes Carl, a blind Bulldog mix, and Trio, a Boston Terrier with a partially amputated back leg and a leg deformity. Both dogs are in the running to become the "most pupular" dog in the game.

While the the program is fun to watch, it is also meant to encourage pet adoption.
