"Yellowstone" follows the Dutton family, who control the largest contiguous ranch in the country from Montana.
The Dutton family is powerful, but complicated. They operate in a corrupt world where politicians are compromised by influential oil and lumber corporations who want to make billion-dollar land grabs. Since 2018, the storyline has seen its share of shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect. In that time, the Dutton property has been in constant conflict with the expanding town, Native American reservation and America's first national park that all share its borders.
Through the first half of season five, the show starred Kevin Costner as the family patriarch John Dutton. Costner announced earlier this year that he would not be returning to the series' final episodes. It isn't clear how the creators will write his character off.
The first half of "Yellowstone" Season 5 left off with a civil war between Jamie and Beth Dutton, John Dutton's children. John was at risk of impeachment from his position as Montana's governor, and an illness was spreading through local wildlife.
