PITTSBURG, Ill. (WSIL) -- A southern Illinois man was placed in handcuffs and cited with multiple charges after deputies respond to a domestic battery call.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said on November 12, at 5:23 p.m., deputies responded to the 17000-block of Fowler School Road north of Pittsburg for a report of a domestic battery incident.
The sheriff's office said the suspect was Billy Williams and they said they were told he was threatening to kill his neighbor and heard aggressive yelling, slamming items and threatening statements.
County officials said they had a previous encounter with Williams where multiple rounds were shot and an explosive device was also used.
On Tuesday, November 12, at about 5:34 p.m., officials said a deputy saw Williams on a minibike outside of the home when they arrived. At this time, the sheriff's office said he fled on the minibike towards his home and then tried to run inside.
At this time, the sheriff's office said the deputy then took Williams to the ground, but Williams resisted, screamed and threatened the deputy. At one point, the sheriff's office said Williams even grabbed the deputy's rifle but the deputy then struck Williams with his forearm which caused him to release his grip on the gun.
The deputy was able to pin Williams to the ground and another deputy then placed him in handcuffs, the sheriff's report stated.
Authorities said they searched Williams and found 16 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition in his from pocket.
Williams was then taken to an area hospital for injuries.
Sheriff Jeff Diederich stated, "Attempting to disarm, fight, or batter a law enforcement officer in Williamson County comes with severe consequences. While we uphold the rule of law, we are fully within our right to defend ourselves against this type of unlawful conduct. Additionally, the State's Attorney's Office has previously made it clear through criminal prosecution that these actions are unacceptable."
