Dublin castle on sale for €3.95m

Dublin castle on sale for €3.95m

Castleville is a compact castle in a south Dublin enclave with a serious literary pedigree that naturally enough comes with its very own library.

The home which comes with all the hallmarks of castle living right down to the turreted roof is located in Sandymount where busts of Irish noble laureates Seamus Heaney and W.B. Yeats stand proud in the local park. Castleville is located on one corner of the park and has a storied history all of its own.

It forms part of what was once Sandymount Castle which was built in the 1850s by the local merchants, the Corbett family. Somewhere along the way, it was broken up into a row of separate homes, thankfully keeping much of the original features including Castleville which was once the home of another Irish literary giant, Frank O'Connor.

Over the years the home has given into wear and tear but the current owners who bought Castleville in 2015 for a reported €1.675m have set about restoring the property to its former glory.

This included enlisting the help of architects to reconfigure the space, reports the Irish Times, and while the home has retained its period charm on the outside, it's airy and bright inside.

Setting the mood for what is to come, entry is via the smoked oak herringbone floor with double doors leading to the home cinema.

If you fancy losing yourself in a great read for a few hours then do a 180 and you'll find yourself in Castleville's library/study space which has been decorated in Drawing Room Blue and overlooks Sandymount Green.

Here you'll also find an antique marble fireplace and one of the home's standout design features, the spiral staircase, leads to the floor-to-ceiling bookcase that has been laid out on the mezzanine level.

The blue theme continues in the kitchen where you'll find a chef kitchen and bespoke cabinetry in Farrow & Ball Stifkey Blue with a large central island.

Off the kitchen is the dining room overlooking the internal courtyard with a table for up to 12 people.

Also on the ground floor is the utility room as well as the Butler's Pantry and one of the home's four bedrooms that is en-suite.

The remaining bedrooms including the Master are on the first floor. All are ensuite while the master also includes a large dressing room space and a balcony area.

Castleville also includes a 100ft garden that has been designed by Formality Gardens and Aspect Garden Construction.

Other features include underfloor heating as well as an intruder alarm system and CCTV.

Castleville is on the market for €3,950,000 with Sherry Fitzgerald Sandymount, See the full listing at myhome.ie.
