High School Football Picks: State championship games

The high school football season in Las Vegas is down to the final week. Let's crown some state champions.

The picks column posted an 8-0 record last week and stands at 170-62 on the season. But this is the only week that matters.

Gorman's physicality on the offensive and defensive lines will be impossible for Arbor View to match. That was clear in the regular season when Gorman limited Arbor View to 11 yards rushing. Yes, Arbor View's passing game -- which features five Division I recruits -- has given opponents fits. But to beat Bishop Gorman, you need to be able to have success on the ground to run clock and shorten the game. The Gorman defense led by defensive linemen Sione Motuapuaka and Prince Williams, and safety Jett Washington -- all juniors -- won't let that happen. Gorman 55, Arbor View 7

The travel to Reno and winter elements won't make it easy on Faith Lutheran. But don't be fooled: The Crusaders are the better team. Alex Rogers has been masterful at quarterback in passing for 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns with just three interceptions. The Crusaders additionally have a strong defense, are well coached and are solid in special teams. Faith Lutheran 24, Bishop Manogue 19

Galena, a Reno school, is the better team. But we rarely pick a team from the north over the hometown school. And Centennial has a much easier commute. Here's rooting for an upset. Centennial 31, Galena 29

Truckee, which has won 33 straight games, is outscoring opponents, 477-98. It has also beaten Slam in the past two state title games. Make it three straight. Truckee 41, Slam 20
