There are a million and one ways dogs make our lives better, and one fun, niche benefit is that they're always keeping us on our toes. Some pups have a playful personality, but if you have a Golden Retriever, chances are, they can't lie even if they try.
On November 19, 2024, Instagram user Sonny in Sydney (@sonny_in_sydney) shared a video of their Golden Retriever, who was hilariously betrayed by his own eyes. This is just too funny!

Sonny is a Golden Retriever who lives in Sydney, Australia, and he's not very convincing when his mom asks what happened to her food.

The food in question is a ham and cheese sandwich that Sonny's mom was going to eat while in the car. There's one small bite out of the corner, which looks like a person's bite. But now, the top of the sandwich is gone.
It's impossible not to laugh at Sonny's face when his mom asks about the top of her sandwich. He is trying so hard not to look at her, and that's exactly what gives him away!
The comment section was filled with people who thought Sonny's face was hilarious because of how hard he was trying not to give himself away. And, of course, his hilarious little burp right at the end.
One person wrote, "A burp does not equal a confession," and another added, "I love that he saved her some ... the burp was just extra adorbs," joked another. Another wrote, "I'm his lawyer. He told me that the sandwich jumped off the center console and fell into his mouth, he was only able to rescue 3/4 of the sandwich."
Golden Retrievers Are Known for Eating Quickly
Golden Retrievers are like little balls of energy, and they're always going, going, going. This means they need a lot of food to fuel all that energy and when they're feeling a little low on fuel, they're happy to eat anything, Wag! explains.
A Golden Retriever "may eat fast if he is not eating every couple of hours. Sometimes, hunger may get the best of your dog, and eating fast may be a coping mechanism to dissolve their hunger," the site explains. "If your dog eats fast, you want to do your best to figure out the cause and help them solve it."
Even if Sonny's mom turned her head for a moment or was only out of sight for a brief time, that was more than enough for him to snag that sandwich right out from under her nose.
Wag! explains that your Golden Retriever "will probably swallow a lot of air when he eats his food if he eats fast, which can cause burping." (And that's probably why Sonny had that cute but telling burp at the end.)
