Top Texas high school quarterback flips from Oklahoma to Florida State

A wild day of highly recruited Class of 2025 high school quarterbacks flipping their commitments to other schools continued on Thursday night.

Kevin Sperry, a four-star QB playing at Denton Guyer (Texas), announced a new commitment, deciding to go to Florida State. He had been committed to Oklahoma for more than a year.

Sperry has completed 128-of-224 passes for 1,973 yards and 21 TDs this season for Guyer, who will face Richardson Pearce this Friday in the area round of the UIL 6A Division II playoffs.

Last season, Sperry played his junior season at Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert, throwing for more than 2,500 yards and 31 TDs and helping lead the Titans to the Class 5A state title. He returned to Texas this offseason, having spent his sophomore season at Prosper Rock Hill.

Sperry's flip continued what had been a memorable day of Class of 2025 quarterbacks announcing new college destinations. Earlier on Thursday, Carrollton (Ga.) quarterback Julian Lewis, who was originally committed to USC, announced his commitment to Colorado.

Then later on Thursday, Bryce Underwood, the Belleville (Mich.) standout considered the No. 1 recruit in the nation, officially flipped his commitment to Michigan after having been committed to LSU for nearly a year.

Sperry's announcement provided a rare victory of sorts for Florida State, which has struggled on the gridiron this season after nearly making the College Football Playoff in 2023. The Seminoles stand at 1-9.
