LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - The father of the nine-year-old boy murdered at his Amherst Township home Wednesday had been granted an emergency custody hearing in Henry County, Indiana.
According to court documents, the emergency hearing was scheduled for Nov. 25. Court documents also show the couple's divorce was final in October 2019.
Lorain County Sheriff Captain Robert Vansant said the child and his mother were found dead inside their Broadway Avenue home around 7:47 a.m. Wednesday.
Captain Vansant said detectives were still going through evidence, but preliminary findings suggest this was a murder suicide with the mother fatally shooting her son, before starting a fire and then shooting herself.
Both mother and son were pronounced dead at the scene.
Lorain County Coroner Dr. Frank Miller III identified the mom as Risa Louks, 46, and the child as Alex Louks.
Firefighters arrived at the home after the alarm company notified authorities of smoke in the structure.
"When they went in and extinguished the very small blaze, they discovered two bodies inside one of the bedrooms," said Captain Vansant.
Nobody else is believed to have lived in the home.
The Amherst Exempted Village School District confirmed the little boy was a third grade student at Powers Elementary School.
