26.12.2024 Earlier this week the boom of a crawler crane came down onto a passing train on the Shanghai Metro
The incident occurred on Sunday morning severely damaging the train, and clipping several carriages, but thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.
It seems that the crane that collapsed was lifting a concrete beam in tandem with a larger crane when a cable on the smaller crane broke, causing the boom and the load to drop, the beam fell into an area alongside the track but the crane boom came down in front of a rapidly approaching train which struck it. The video below shows a great deal more detail of the incident.
Passengers were evacuated from the train and were obliged to walk alongside the track to the nearest station. The train service apologised for the delays caused by the collapse and organised a number of bus routes to move people around the obstacle.
China's Ministry of Emergency Management coordinated the rescue efforts and the investigations, stating: "We will determine the cause of the incident and punish those responsible."
