BASEBALL: Harrington's hot bat leads Claremore past Edison

Dan Harrington was locked in at the plate Thursday night, and his bat set the tone.

He went a perfect 3-for-3, driving in two runs and scoring once as the Zebras dominated Edison 8-0 in a nondistrict matchup at Legendary Legion Field at Murray-Pixley Park.

Harrington's offensive explosion was part of a 12-hit performance by Claremore, which put up runs in each of the first four innings while keeping the Eagles off the board.

The Zebras (8-0) wasted no time taking the lead, getting on the board in the first inning when Jax Van Valkenburg ripped a single to right field, scoring Marcos Sallee for a quick 1-0 advantage.

The offense kept rolling in the second.

Harrington's bat stayed hot with a two-run single to right, plating Tyler Osgood and Saxton Pickup before Connor Rowe scored on a balk to make it 4-0.

Claremore continued to extend its lead in the third when Curtis Waters lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing in Van Valkenburg to push the score to 5-0.

The biggest hit of the night came in the fourth inning when Brad Hoisington blasted a two-run triple to deep center, scoring Rowe and Harrington. Sallee then capped the scoring with an RBI groundout, securing the final 8-0 margin.

Hoisington wasn't just productive at the plate -- he was dominant on the mound as well. The right-hander tossed five scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while striking out six and walking none.

The Eagles managed just three singles throughout the game, never putting together a serious scoring threat against Claremore's stifling defense.

Harrington and Van Valkenburg led the offensive charge, each collecting three hits to fuel the Zebras' attack. Pickup also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3.
