FRISCO - When considering the most toxic situations across the NFL this season, the Dallas Cowboys have done their part in reigning supreme above all others. Between Jerry Jones' outbursts, speculation on Mike McCarthy's job status and disciplinary issues with Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas has become a weekly headline staple for many non-football items.
The Cowboys are now 3-7 with their antics perhaps the most intriguing pieces about them. However, their division rival has clamored their own case of dysfunction and ramped up that conversation the last few weeks.
Ahead of the team's Week 12 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New York Giants have made the decision to bench Daniel Jones. But this is no temporary reset for the former first round pick.
The Giants have moved Jones down to the third string spot on the depth chart behind new starter Tommy DeVito and Drew Locke. Thursday, reports indicated that Jones spent time lined up as a scout team safety.
Following the practice, Jones delivered a speech that seemed to reflect an end to his time as the team's quarterback.
"The opportunity to play for the New York Giants was truly a dream come true and I am extremely grateful to the Mara and Tisch families for the chance to play here. I take full responsibility in my part for not bringing more wins...I'm excited for the next opportunity.

Jones also issued thank you's to his fellow players and coaches through his six-year tenure. The team has not made any official move or statement beyond Jones' move down the depth chart.
Regardless, this seems a glaringly obvious end to his time with the Giants.
Jones will still have two years left on a four-year $160 million extension he signed with the team in 2023, so that matter will have to be attended to in the near future.
The Giants have fully embraced the tank and are currently well positioned for their ideal draft position. In April's draft, they look primed to move on from Jones and take their next franchise quarterback.
